WHAT I’M UP TO:
This spring I’m teaching 8 classes M-TH in 3 colleges. Crazy but fun and riding the chaos is better than sitting at a desk job.

I’m part of a great team blogging for Envelopments. Read a post here.

FAQ: Are you still at the International Printing Museum?
A: Yes, but as an off-site volunteer on the Book Arts Institute Advisory Panel. I am thrilled to report the addition of a full-time staff member, Gary Marc Remson as the first ever Museum Manager. At present he is coordinating the logistics of the Book Arts Institute and I will be promoting the BAI off-site and helping out when I can (I got my hands full teaching and being more in my studio). Letterpress and other classes are still being offered throughout the year. And don’t worry, I’ll be back in the action to plan the 2nd Annual Los Angeles Printers Fair which will be September 25, 2010 at the Museum (2009 Fair here).

The Page
Curated by Karin Lanzoni & Rachelle W. Chuang
For this survey exhibition, over thirty artists from a broad range of studio art practices were asked to submit one page (in the original or poster format) from their artists’ book to mount on the walls of the gallery. Accompanying original books or facsimiles will be on display for viewing in a unique reading area designed by several Los Angeles architects. Guest curators Rachelle W. Chuang and Karin Lanzoni selected these artists—painters, photographers, sculptors, graphic designers, printers, performance artists, and book artists—each employing distinctive artistic strategies and techniques.

Brian Prince of Project Art School blogged about the show here.

Andrea's Workshop

I’ll be attending this pulp painting class, come join me!

Paper on Paper
Draw, Paint, Stencil with cotton rag
With Andrea Peterson

Friday, April 9 – Sunday, April 11, 2010 [ Fri 6-9 am, Sat and Sun 10 am – 4pm ]
Fee: $315, all materials included [ $300 and $15 for materials ]
Class Limit: 10

This is an intensive workshop focusing on understanding and using pigments (wet and powdered) with a finely beaten cotton rag. Papermaking agents such as retention aid (dry and wet), sizing and formation aid will assist in creating vibrant and fluid images. We will use a variety of tools that will assist in drawing, painting and stenciling with the cotton rag onto a base sheet of recycled fiber, cotton rag. The rag will be beaten for different amounts of time resulting in a variety of lengths in which non-toxic pigments in varying amounts will be added. This workshop is for the student at any level.

DEPOSIT: The full amount of $315 is required to reserve your spot. The cut off date to receive a full refund is March 9, 2010. Cancellations made after March 9 will be refunded 50%. Checks made out to: Littlewood Studios. Mail to Jill Littlewood, Littlewood Studios, 435 E. Pedregosa, Santa Barbara, CA, 93103. Questions? 805-448-2045

Letterpress is hot, hot, hot and I get questions of where to take classes in Southern California all the time. There are classes going on at the universities, but for the general public, here is my ongoing summary. Let me know of other places I’ve missed! Click here.
