artist | designer | educator | consultant | papermaker | letterpress | lover of beauty | creativist
creativist: someone who is attuned creatively to their surroundings; a person who understands and expresses their life through creative works or motifs (from urbandictionary.com)

“Get to the Point:” Basically I’m an independent free-roaming contractor and I take projects that interest me though I wish I had more time to do everything. I have a heavy adjunct teaching schedule Spring and Fall so I’m only taking on additional projects in-between (graphic design gigs, curatorial projects, additional workshops) unless it is really, really irresistible

Rachelle Woo Chuang (pronounced “chwong” rhymes with “song”) has been a creative person her whole life and is both a fine artist and graphic designer. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Biola University and a Master’s degree from its seminary, Talbot. In 2006 she received her MFA from the University of the Arts Printmaking and Book Arts Program in Philadelphia, PA.
Rachelle has studied hand papermaking with several established papermakers and organizations since 2000. She was first introduced to hand papermaking at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Silver Spring, MD and worked for papermaking artist Ellen Mears Kennedy in Bethesda, MD. Never creatively satisfied, she then pursued letterpress printing and book arts before entering graduate school. She has participated in numerous demonstrations and has teaching experience to all ages. She exhibits her fine art work nationally.
After 12 years on the East Coast, Rachelle finally returned to Orange County, CA in 2007 with husband Dj and son Jeremiah. They live in beautiful Aliso Viejo and attend ROCKHarbor Church. She is an independent contractor and adjuncts in graphic design and fine art. She teaches at Chapman University, Biola University, Irvine Valley College, Irvine Fine Arts Center, Project Art School and the Cerritos Public Library.
Rachelle has studios at Laguna Canyon Woods in Laguna Beach and at the Irvine Fine Arts Center (IFAC). Hand papermaking and letterpress printing on a Vandercook SP-15 occurs at the Laguna Beach studio. The Vandercook-4 and several cases of type (formerly at Biola University) are currently housed at IFAC. The Center has also acquired additional material to make a fully-equipped letterpress print shop. She is a member of San Diego Book Arts and Friends of Dard Hunter and volunteers off-site at the International Printing Museum.
I am a proud authorized dealer of beautiful Envelopments paper and contributes occasionally to their blog.
She loves to roam galleries, soak in beauty and unleash playful creativity in others.
